They are complementr: Mammogram is the standard first test to screen for breast cancer. An ultrasound can often add to its value especially if your breast are dense (increased density on the mammograms).

Very common: Ultrasound is often used to evaluate densities seen on a mammogram. Most often a round density on a mammogram is a benign cyst or benign breast tumor called a fibroadenoma. If the ultrasound suggests an alternative diagnosis it can be used to guide biopsy. Basically it is a second test used to provide additional information.

Possibly  more tests: such as an Ultrasound of the breast or more angles in Mammography, There may have been an area of breast tissue that was needed to be defined in more detail.
It may or may not lead to a biopsy.

Yes: Weight loss obviously causes your breasts to be smaller and less dense. Your mammograms will look different. Fat doesn't show up on a mammogram; it is the grey in the background. The breast ducts and vessels do show up. If you lose fat in your breasts, you may see more ducts and vessels in your mammogram.

No, but follow up: A follow up is necessary for us to get a closer look at an abnormality seen on your initial mammogram.  In most cases, the abnormalities look noncancerous. You may be asked to come back in 3-6 months for another evaluation.

History?: J: do you have a very strong family history of breast cancer (mother, sister)?  A mammogram is usually not needed until age 40.  In someone as young as you, if you are having a problem we would start with a sonogram.  There is no radiation with a sonogram and often a mammogram at that young age would not be helpful.  See if you can clarify the reasons for the mammogram before you get it.

NO: More benefits by regular mammogram examination than the fear will cause cancer , accumulated total radiation in 20 to 30 years , are with in safe limits , those yeas will be exposed to more radiation from air travel to visits to beach. Take care of yourself by regular visits to your doctor and  mammograms if indicated.

Calcifications can : Be of different type, but are the easy things to see on x-ray, and changes are assessed by comparison of the annual studies. Commonly ultrasound is used to direct a biopsy of suspicious calcifications. Six exams seem a lot. Ask your doctor to explain why so many.
