Very common: Ultrasound is often used to evaluate densities seen on a mammogram. Most often a round density on a mammogram is a benign cyst or benign breast tumor called a fibroadenoma. If the ultrasound suggests an alternative diagnosis it can be used to guide biopsy. Basically it is a second test used to provide additional information.

Possibly  more tests: such as an Ultrasound of the breast or more angles in Mammography, There may have been an area of breast tissue that was needed to be defined in more detail.
It may or may not lead to a biopsy.

Probably clear a sus: If they suspect something, they want further clarification by obtaining more pictures(different views of the breast).This is not uncommon.Most times it does not mean any bad news as the doubts are cleared and nothing worrysome is found.

Several possibilitie: Being called back for a mammogram is due to concern for an abnormality that needs additional "views" to confirm its presence or determine that it is just a grouping of normal "shadows". It does not indicate that a cancer is there, simply that further views are needed, either by mammogram, ultrasound, or both.

i did a mammogram and was called back severally for a follow-up mamogram.  does it mean i have cancer?  i am really scared.

Not exactly: It just means they see some irregularity and want to get some compression views.  If additional imaging shows an abnormality, an ultrasound may be done.  This is a lot more common given digital mammography.  We are seeing a lot more detail and a lot of the time it is benign. Hope this helps.

Unlikely: An abnormality in a mammogram would not cause backache. The call back for mammogram may be due to something suspicious in the earlier one. It would be prudent to talk to your doctor who knows more about your health.

Yes it is possible: A shadow is a non specific finding on a mammogram and could represent movement. a fold in the skin of the breast,  dense breast tissue, or potentially a more serious mass, so a repeat mammogram or perhaps an ultrasound may be done to help identify the suspicious area. Besides being uncomfortable, it would be natural to feel somewhat anxious, but try to think positive until follow up. Good luck.

Breast U/S: Hi. It is quite normal to get called back for ultrasound of the breast after mammogram, especially for young women. Breast u/s is a different modality that can give the radiologist and other doctors a different angle of the area seen on mammo, and can lead to obtaining a diagnosis of what the asymmetry is. Asymmetry means something that looks difference from one side compared to the other side.

i had my first mammogram this morning 11/3 at age 56. i received a call this afternoon 11/3 stating they needed to do farther testing, ultrasound. is this common? i did have a covid booster shot 10/3. could that cause adnormal results? nervous?

: It could be just because they have nothing to compare to and need more imaging to be sure, especially if you still have some areas more dense than others. Definitely come for follow up and feel free to ask questions.

Seek  a radiologist: for interpretation and evaluation, preferably, the radiologist at the facility where the mammogram was done.
