: I believe there is significant potential for interaction between amitriptyline and Ganaton(promotes intestinal motility)&amp; I wonder whether palpitations are a side effect of taking the 2 meds. No: To be precise, gas in the stomach can not cause heart palpitations, but it can give the feeling like there is something happening to the heart when there is not.  We frequently have patients who feel "palpitations" while wearing a heart monitor and we see no abnormalities of the heart rate or rhythm.  So, the sensation can come from causes unrelated to the heart.

If your pulse taking is accurate an episode of 150 beats per minute is a significant tachyarrythmia. Get evaluation by a cardiologist if frequent palpitations &amp; very rapid heart rates occur. Family historyHeart exam,EKG, outpatient heart monitoring and possible treadmill stress testing are the usual screening
