No one really knows: we assume an association between estrogen and anxiety.  Never been well proven.  Personally, I think low testosterone, which occurs in men and women is more relevant.

Hormones are a great help for this as well as the night sweats so it's great your;re doing it and your md approves.

Possibly: If hormones are out of whack and estrogen depleted it may help but usually there is a relative estrogen dominance even in menopause and sometimes progesterone, like Prometrium (micronized progesterone) or a bioitentical cream, may be of more benefit.

There is a: condition called involutional melancholia that happens with menopause and this is characterized by depression and can have associated anxiety. Talk to your gynecologist who can refer you to a psychiatrist plus your gynecologist can make sure that HRT may also be needed  , if appropriate.

Probably not: The progesterone level only rises with ovulation and with pregnancy. So it should be very low, depending on when it is checked. Hormone levels can affect the mood, but that should also be a cyclic effect that varies throughout the cycle. The bio identical formulations may not offer any benefit - one way or the other.  See your Ob/Gyn.

See your dr: I'm assuming that your periods were irregular and that it had been awhile since you'd had a period.  Progesterone therapy may be given to bring on a period.  Not period after Progesterone therapy can may several things:  pregnancy or possible low estrogen levels.  You need to write down your questions to ask the doctor who prescribed the progesterone.

i received some partial information about a test for estrogen. is "9" in normal limits? i've been crying and having anxiety issues for over a year.  i also have lyme disease and perhaps bartonella.

Different : Different labs use different ranges of "normal" "high" and "low" for the tests they run, so a 9 from one lab might be normal and a 9 from another lab might not be.  The other thing that makes estrogen tricky in particular is that "normal" varies throughout the month according to your menstrual cycle which will also affect the reading of the test.  The best thing to do is to call the doctor that ordered the test and speak with them.  They will have the normal range numbers from that particular lab available to them and will be able to give you the information you need.

The Pill &amp; Anxiety: The levels of estrogen and preogestin in a birth control pill get into your blood stream very quickly as soon as you take them. However, the levels of estrogen &amp; progestin do fluctuate - they are highest right after you take the pill, and lowest right before you are about to take the next one. If you are looking for a steady state of hormone, an implant or nuvaring would be better.
