would lymphoma cause like just one or 2 palpable nodes or like many through out neck and head? or if all over would it be more like lupus?

Accepted Answer

Likely Lymphoma: It is less likely that lupus gives pts enlarged lymph nodes. One or two lymph nodes  or multiple is common in lymphomas (hodgkin may give less number and larger nodes?).

i've had 5 ct scans over the past 5 yrs. 4 abdomen, 1 head.  has this increased my risk a lot for lymphoma or leukemia?  what if i need more?

Your total radiation: Dose is still quite low and the time frame is long.  That said, it is worth asking about the necessity of tests when additional scans are considered.

been tired months all bloodwork clean- had ct of head & chest/abdomen- clean. woke up this morning w swollen lymph nodes- scared i have lymphoma!!! ??

Many possibilities: Enlarged lymph nodes can be a sign of lymphoma but it can also be a sign of many other less serious disorders. What is reassuring is that CT of chest and abdomen did not show enlarged nodes. You should probably see your primary care this week and be examined. Location and consistency will guide evaluation.

Not likely cancer: It came on too fast, and cancer is rarely painful to start off with. See doctor to determine if its tender lymph nodes, muscle strain,  or pain along carotid artery (carotidynia).

Yes: Yes, it would be very sensitive for detecting cancers in the regions scanned.

Complex question!: Cd3 is on t cells. Your doctor is looking for t cells in your skin biopsy, which can be present for many reasons including allergy. It looks like you have autoimmune disease (positive ANA in the past), so your doctor may be checking to see if your skin lesions are related to that.  Based on what you've told me, lymphoma does not come to mind!  ask your doctor what he/she is thinking!  don't worry!

Hmmm: I find that extremely hard to believe but can't say it has never happened. If you have an enlarged node, make sure you visit your family doc, especially if it's been there for long.

is it standard when doing a skin biopsy to run cd3 and if it's negative can it still be turning into lymphoma?

No, it is not: A skin biopsy would only be done if there is a visible lesion(s) over the skin.Then a microscopic exam will reveal if there is any abnormal cells in the skin biopsy which may look like a lymphoma , in which case lymphoma markers like cd3 and others like it may be tested.
