can you tell me exactly where are the lymph nodes on the back of the neck located?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. They enlarge in response to inflammation created when they react.  They shrink when all is well. They are in chains besides the arteries/veins running along both sides of back of your neck.

on a thin individual would it be possible to feel lymph nodes on the back of elbows?

: Yes it is possible to feel lymph nodes in this area. The lymph node is a filter for bodily fluids that drain from the hand up into the central circulation. If there is an infection in the hand for example the filtering becomes more pronounced and the lymph node can enlarge.

is it normal to feel small movable lymph nodes on the back of 3 yo head? he has several and has always had them. should i be concerned?

Not uncommon: Lymph nodes at the back of a child's head is not uncommon.  Inflammation or even dry skin can lead to this.  Your child should be seen by the pediatrician if the become larger (&gt;1cm), inflamed, painful to touch or if other symptoms like fever develop.

Inflammation: Lymph nodes react to inflammation at times by swelling and tenderness. As long as they recede this is a benign situation. It's probable that inflammation of the nose and throat during allergic reactions are causing this in your case. Avoiding  specific allergens and  taking antihistamines, decongestants and tylenol (acetaminophen) may help.

Baker's cyst: Your description could be many things but sounds like a baker's cyst.  Go see your regular doctor.

can allergy to shampoo affect lymph nodes on the back of the neck?

Not likely: Allergy to shampoo is of the contact type, and will therefore affect the skin long before it affects the lymph nodes. If you don't have a significant rash all over your scalp (the areas that come into contact with the shampoo), the swollen lymph nodes are probably not related to the shampoo.

Not yet: the lymph node enlargement is likely an appropriate response to your recent illness. Please see your healthcare provider if the swelling continues for more than a couple of weeks.

Usually is benign: Lymph nodes are located throughout the body &amp; generally noticeable in exposed areas like the neck. They are usually pea sized at rest and enlarged when stimulated by bug bites, dermatitis, drainage or infection. They rarely can become damaged by infection &amp; grow to golf ball size &amp; need drainage or removal. Most enlarge and later shrink back down within a 3 wk cycle unless chronically stimulated
