Statins and lupus: Some studies indicate statins would be beneficial in lupus as this autoimmune disease accelerates atherosclerosis or plaquing of the arteries.   However some animal studies have shown the oppisite effect.  There is a human clinical study going on right now to evaluate the side effects.   The contraindication has been that it increases muscle pain and weakness in lupus patients,  Hope this helps

Steroids: Steroids cause both an increase in appetite and fluid retention. If possible a steroid sparing drug needs to be added so the steroid dose can be decreased.

It is important that this be done on an individual basis. The best person with whom to discuss this is the physician who prescribed the Trazadone. If you see more than one doctor, it is extremely important each is aware of all your medical conditions and medications you take.

Depends: I have used many drugs for Lupus but have not used Sulfasalazine. Alot of what is chosen depends on the symptoms and the labs so there is not just one best drug for everyone.

i had an ana ifa screen w/reflex to titer and pattern blood test & the results were a homogeneous pattern is associated with systemic lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus. is there a way to prove it is not drug-induced lupus? i take no medications?

: Anti histone antibody is classically associated with drug induced lupus.  Another question would be - what are the signs and symptoms suggesting lupus?  Most ANA are not significant.  Figures from 5-10% of the general population show positive lupus testing.  Most will never go on to lupus, fortunately.

Discoid lupus: Yes, several treatments are topical as well as the possiblity of pulsed dye laser. Remember sunscreen and sun protection with clothing including hats. Stop smoking if you are because it worsens the problem.
A visit to a dermatologist to discuss all of the options and devise a treatment plan for you is highly recommended.

Many. : Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease.   There are several different types of Lupus and they usually cause many symptoms that other diseases have (nonspecific).   When a patient is suspected of having Lupus or an autoimmune condition,   they get special labs and they usually see a rheumatologist.   medications can stop working and there are other  medications that could improve your symptoms.
