For sure: I personally was very sick with fever and chills but no cough, It eventually was determined that I had right upper lobe pneumonia. You show have examination by physician and possible radiographic exam. One of major symptoms for community acquired pneumonia is chest pain. Of course musculoskeletal issues can also cause chest and back pain.

just woke @ 630 am up hearing a sound from my chest every time i breathe out?no asthma,slight cough. breathing seams fine.i can feel it on my chest with my hand i feel rattling?

: The onset of viral lung components of infection may produce a "rattle" due to thickened mucus in the tracheo-bronchial tree.  This may be a harbinger of a viral pneumonia.  Get tested for COVID, b/c even if you have had three shots of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, COVID infection is still reported.

Several causes: Fluid in lungs can be due to several causes & it should be investigated by your doctor to determine appropriate therapy. Because the retained fluid in your lungs makes your lungs relatively stiff & makes it harder for oxygen to enter your body, it will lead to problems with breathing as the body tries to make up for this by breathing faster. Please consult a lung specialist for treatment.

Asthma?: Could be asthma.  See your doctor for evaluation and treatment. An inhaler is effective treatment.

Possibly allergic: I'm suspicious that you may be having allergic reaction to the cats. If your symptoms persist, see an allergist.

Is not the lungs: Lung has no nerve endings. Went in pai this could be; the thoracic cage, pleura or muscles or nerves coming from the column.

Possibly.: That is a definite possibility. It would be very important to have this medically evaluated.

Accepted Answer

Yes: The lungs do get "smaller" with age and lose some of their elastic recoil (ability to deflate with exhalation) but age alone should not result in breathing difficulties.  It would be advisable to determine smoking history, other medical problems and evaluate with chest xray, breathing tests  oxygen level and work to regain their breathing capacity when cause is determined.
