i have a hard dome shape lump on back of my head. about size of nickel. the middle just below my scalp area. more of right side of back of head. been there for atleast a year. hard, skin colored, doesn't leak or have head on it?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Without further description and your medical history, it would be hard to pinpoint the cause. Definitely make an appointment with a dermatologist to undergo evaluation.

: Have you ever seen a doctor for that lump?
It could be a sebaceous cyst or a reactive lymph node. The sebaceous cyst can get infected and it causes pain and tenderness with touch. The problem is usually resolving without treatment but sometimes it needs to be incised and drainage.
A chronic reactive lymph node is usually asymptomatic.

It may just be a: swollen lymph node but there are many other possibilities some of which may be potentially serious. Make an appointment for a health care provider to examine the area.

Requires exam: If this is an abscess or an infected sebaceous cyst.  If an abscess, it must be drained. If it is an infected cysts it must be surgically excised.
