i'm having pain under right side rib cage and feel a lump around there. two months back i was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer (had gallstones) which has mets to liver. now the gallbladder is removed and started chemotherapy. what could cause pain?

: The metastases to internal organs are a likely cause of pain. Chemotherapy is likely contributing. It would be prudent to talk to your doctor or pain relief medication.

painful left lump on left side of rib cage. it has grown in size. mri was last test to show something but it was not defined. been 3 yrs, what is it?

Hard to say: There are certainly many possibilities.  If there is any concern or the diagnosis is in question, an excisional biopsy would probably be reasonable.  Don't hesitate to discuss with your doctor.

only at night i get this lump just below my right side rib cage. i can only feel it when i am standing, when i lay down it goes away. could it be just trapped gas? or something more? it hurts sometimes but subsides normally once i change positions?

: What you are describing sounds very much like a Spigelian hernia (weak area in the muscle thru which bowel protrudes )which is relatively unusual but it is difficult to diagnose without exam. It is not serious Once diagnosed it is easily repaired. See an experienced surgeon and give exactly the same history. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck.

Let us see: Is this lump attached to skin? This is not a good sign.
Is this lump painful? Is there is any recent trauma to the area? Are this lump warm and the skin over it? If the answer to all the questions no? Most likely is benign lump. Check with your doc?

Bet lipoma: Most common would b a lipoma, not much else there. Skin, fat, muscle, bone & chest contents,  moveable soft tissue = lipoma. Benign.  If really concerned ur pcp should help u.

Monitor: The usual cause of superficial lump is lypoma. Rarely could it be a small bony growth or neuroma.  A lypoma is usually painless, freely mobile, and remains stable over time. Bone spur is hard, fixed and tender on palpation. Neuroma may or may not painful but usually fixed.  Just monitor for changes in size, superficial ulceration, changes in color and if any suspicious change talk to PCP.

See your physician.: See your family doctor or internist, so that he/she can assess the "lump", and order any potential diagnostic studies to determine what it may be. It can be anything from an inflammed muscle, to some type of a mass.

Mgt: It is probably an enlarged lymph node, and an evaluation is advised.A complete blood count and ESR may be ordered as indicated. If there is an infection, antibiotics may be prescribed.

Lumps should: Always be investigated. Painfree does not indicate anything in terms of possible malignancy. Hopefully, its something benign like a lipoma or ganglion but it warrants an exam, my preference is biopsy.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you, however, what you described suggests a benign tumor of fat. lipoma. You may consult your doctor at your convenience to ascertain if it may warrant removal.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
