i have a small lump on my testicle on the outer layers. i read on the nhs website that if a testicle has a lump inside of it it's bad but if the lump is outside the testicle it's good? how can i tell if my lump is in or out of my testicle?

: Follow the contour of your testicle if the lump is above that it is outside. If the bulge is part of the contour it is inside. Please see a Urologist to make sure and ask him/her tom teach you how to examine the testicle and then do it periodically. It is easy.

: Inside the testicle growth causes enlargement in the size of the testicle and out it will be one that sits on the out side but connected to it. Please get it checked by a Urologist if you have one and the same time have him/her teach you testicular self-exam.

Possible infection: This needs to be examined by a physician.  It may be an infection, such as epididymitis, or a varicocele (blood sac).  Less common would be a tumor.  You have provided only limited information; please see your primary care provider for an evaluation.  The best diagnostic test is an ultrasound.

i have a pinhead lump on the side of my testicle. how can i tell if the lump is on the inside of my testicle or on the outside of it? i suspect it's tunica since i can feel it on the outer surface. but if its on the surface does that mean its outside?

: testis has a tunica albuginea  and over that it is surrounded by tunica vaginalis, The tiny lump you feel is probably on the outside part of albuginea. Most of these are benign. To clear any further doubts you will have to see a Urologist

Lump in the Scrotum: Hi

this common finding would be evaluated based upon other symptoms. Given your age, the lump is very unlikely to represent cancer.
The most common issue is a scarring of the tubing in the scrotum often called a hydrocele or varicocele. 

Do you have pain? Swelling? Is the scrotum hot to touch?  Do you feel feverish? Do you have any urinary symptoms. 
If yes to these questions you should be seen.

See a doctor now: Testicular cancer is the most common malignancy for 15 to 35yo males.  It might turn out to be nothing, but you must get examined and have a scrotal ultrasound to be sure.  Some of the possible benign things are epididymal cyst (spermatocele) or even just the normal epididymis that you came across for the first time.  Best news is  if it is testis cancer, it's one of the most treatable cancers.

See below: There are a number of causes of “lumps” in the scrotum and all scrotal masses need to be examined by a doctor, even if not associated with pain or other symptoms. If the “lump” is arising from testicle, the most important cause to rule out is Testicular Cancer. If separate from the testicle, an epididymal cyst or spermatocele is the most common. Other common causes: epididymitis and varicocele.

For those times when things are unclear, simple imaging tests like ultrasound can help make a diagnosis. The first step, though, it for you to go see your doctor. Do not wait. It is better to be safe than sorry.
