Depends: Least likely cause is the bakers cyst as these are usually asymptomatic. The only way that a varicose vein could be felt as a lump is if it has clotted off in which case it usually would also be very painful. Therefore this could be a thrombosed varicose vein. Possibility of tumor can not be discounted as it is included in the differential.

i have a lump on my tendon behind me knee that is movable and about an inch or smaller in size. im scared its a tumor, everything i read says bakers cyst are in the hollow part of the back of knee.. are there any other cysts that it could be?

Yes: Cysts can form from the synovial lining of tendon sheaths. A common site for such cysts is the wrist. It would be prudent to see a rheumatologist.

Experienced hands: If something can be felt but not seen then often a clinician can determine the most likely diagnosis by palpating the area in physical exam.  Superficial blood clots or varicosities are easily palpated, but more serious deep venous thrombosis usually are not. Cysts, lymph nodes, and a variety of skin nodules can be found behind the knee too.

i have pain on my left side from my groin, round the buttocks. sensitive to touch, but muscle pain. spread right side, down to behind knee, have bakers cyst, lumps down the leg. muscles are sore, affecting my daily physical activities.

Sacroileitis?: If could b a # of things, sacro-ileitis being one. Or it could be disc of lumbosacral spine. An ortho doc can do certain maneuvers on you to diagnosis. You might need an MRI of the lower back and pelvis.

i have a lump behind my knee and my doctor says its a bakers cyst, but i have pain radiating up my calf and slo down to my foot. could it be a clot?

Calf pain: Baker cyst & DVT (blood clot) is diagnosed by ultrasound.  Baker rarely needs surgery.  Treatment is with oral pain meds (motrin , tylenol). Sometimes phy therapy. May help. Pain may radiate to calf (specially if rupture). Ortho if very large or very painful (in order to find cause - ie cartilage damage, infection  etc), they may consider drainage & rarely surgery. Good prognosis.

Maybe : while the veins themselves can be benign clot forming inside them can be problematic.  You should be checked to make sure not involving deep veins.

See Vein Specialist.: It is very unlikely that you would have PAD at 25 years old.  The varicose vein may be a source of your problem but because you have a vein does not mean that it is causing problems.  See a vein specialist for a venous evaluation before starting OBC pills.

Veins and lumps: Varicose veins are dilated veins...up to where you can feel them easily.  This also allows you to feel the valves that are part of the veins normal structure. Pull up some pics of vein anatomy to reassure yourself.

Possibly: The fluid that accumulates is painful because of the pressure.  The joint capsule if weak, can burst, then you get pain into your calves.Be sure your DX is baker's cyst .U/s can confirm.  See your dr! treatment consists of aspiration, possibly injecting a healing agent, but especially treating the underlying condition. See you dr!

i woke up to pain in the back of my right knee. i googled and it mentioned baker cyst but i do not see any lumps. should i rest it and give it a few days before consulting with a doctor? im on the pill so concerned about blood clots.. thanks

Knee pain: Just because you have pain behind your knees, does not mean baker cysts. There is more history needed to know. Is this the first time its happening. Did you walk, exercise, picked up heavy things the previous day etc. Also calf pain is more worrisome for blood clot than knee pain.
