LPR: Treatment includes inclining the torso when sleeping, avoiding chocolate, mint, caffeine, alcohol and large meals prior to bedtime. Acid reducing drugs such as Prilosec reduce scarring. Pulmonary, ENT or GI specialist consultations may be necessary if symptoms are intractable.

GERD? : Gastroesophageal reflux or GERD (is that what you mean by LPR reflux?) can cause aspiration and bronchospasm. The refluxing acid can trickle down the airways (aspiration) &amp; cause them to spasm. You can then get shortness of breath, wheezing &amp; cough. If you are having these symptoms, then do discuss this with your primary medical provider or specialist because help is available. Hope that helps.

No: The drugs don't cause shortness of breath, but if it hurts to breath (movement of your breastbone), that  WILL cause it. At your age (18), arthritis is unusual so my guess is there was some trauma whether or not you remember the specific instance. A chest x-ray will determine if your sternum or ribs are fractured which may help gauge how long the pain will be present.
