severe lower back pain after spinal tap weeks later. what is going on?

Not clear: Complications of spinal taps could cause you headaches or leg symptoms, but isolated back pain weeks later might not be related at all. Perhaps the condition that prompted the spinal tap could be the culprit. Rarely, an impromperly performed tap can be associated with ectopic tissue growth along the needle track in a very delayed fashion.

i had spinal tap 3 months ago and still have bad lower back pain mostly when bending over or sitting too long.is this normal? will it go away? thanks!

Spinal tap: This is somewhat normal. May last 6 months. As long as no fever , vomiting or headache associated , this shouldn’t be too concerning.

No.: Standard lab tests not likely to show anything.   But the worst thing on my list would be infection which might show up as an elevated CRP or wbc.  I would see the doc who performed the rudy to have them consider your problem.

Post LP pain: No, it is not common to have pain 6 months after a lumbar puncture.  Are there any other symptoms that you are having?  It is time to consider what is causing the pain, and then what to do about it.

: If you haven't had this discomfort before the LP it may have developed because of the postioning you had to stay in during the procedure. Was the procedure easy or prolonged?  I don't think it was the LP itself that caused any other harm. Assuming it's muscular discomfort, applying heat 20 minutes several times a day,gentle massage &amp; wearing a soft cervical collar off&amp;on&amp; take a muscle relaxant

Yes: New problems can develop or you can develop problems over time simple from the body's response to the fusion over time (bone spurs, scar tissue, stenosis, etc). Get it checked out. Probably will need fresh mri. For patients who have had surgery would recommend high field with contrast.

See below: There are many ways to treat low back pain.  Manipulation by a chiropractor or osteopath is an option.  Physical therapy is worth a try.  Try heat and otc nsaids.  You could also see a pain specialist who may be able to offer treatment.

Yes: Unfortunately, its not uncommon to see low back pain recur after back surgery. I recommend you follow up with your surgeon.

Ask your pain doc: If you have had injections, you have some compression of disc or nerve in the spine. Injections wear off, or cease to benefit after a while. Only your treating doc can assess the facts and help make a determination of next steps in your treatment. Good luck
