Indirectly: It may be the opposite, that foot pain may cause back strain.  But if you have tight lower back muscles, it can indirectly lead to foot pain by compensation during walking.

Usually yes: Nothing to worry as long as it is symmetrical. You may like swimming to improve the pain. See doc if no improvement.

Accepted Answer

You need a complete: Evaluation by a spine specialist if your symptoms are persisting over time.  This would include a complete history and physical examination with the appropriate testing being indicated. Then, based on the results, a treatment plan can be recommended and initiated as well as modified by how you respond.

Spasm: Absolutely, spasm can reduce blood flow and cause pain/aching in the leg. Not sure why you had the steroid IM shot though. Consider getting your low back looked at by a chiropractor or a DO who knows how to manipulate.  Odds are you have a structural issue somewhere below L2.  Soak in a hot bath then do some gentle stretching exercises.

Low back: Instability of the lower spine may refer to inadequate spinal or paraspinal muscles and ligaments, or spondylolisthesis producing an inadequate low back with chronic discomfort and limitation of flexibility. An orthopedic surgeon can advise you better,however.

Most likely it is an: acute muscle strain (pull) .  If you have trouble with urination (pain on urination,  increased frequency, radiating pain from back to bladder, frank blood or pink urine, fever/chills, etc.) then you may have kidney stones.   Or you could have referred pain from gallbladder stones if it is right side of back and you have indigestion, increased gas, colicky pain after you eat.

Para spinal muscles: Yes there are strong muscles called para spinal muscles. They include erector spinae   their job is to keep your posture upright  they can go into spasm and become roppy in case of back pain or sprain.

Yes tight muscles: It is possible that tight muscles can cause low back pain. The best treatment is warm soaks or using a heating pad followed by stretching. Yoga is a good way to prevent this. Massage and physical therapy may also be helpful.

Causes of sciatica: There are causes for sciatica besides disc problems. Hypertrophied muscle or spasm can push on the sciatic nerve causing pain to radiate down leg. The muscle can be in the lower back or pelvis. Since it appears that there is no serious structural problem, then physical therapy is the best way to get muscles and ligaments to relax and stretch and reduce pressure on sciatic nerve.
