Something or nothing: Bloating is a common symptom of ibs which is usually a self-limiting but annoying gastrointestinal syndrome.  The bloating is usually from swallowed gas and/or bacterial imbalance in the gastrointestinal tract.  If it is just the lower abdomen, and the patient is female, it may be due to gynecologic problem or even gyn malignancy.  If it is with constipation, a laxative may help.

I hope he's ok: Take him to the dr. and get an examination and maybe some testing if the Dr. orders any, to properly diagnose why he is swelling in his lower abdominal area.

Need CT: If a ultrasound is not helpful, often a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis will better be able to identify if you have a hernia (defect in the abdominal wall fascia)  It will also look at your intestines to see if you have an appendicitis or small bowel or colon problem.  Sometimes a CT can be better at identifying other pathology such as an ovarian cyst or urachal cyst that would not be seen on US

Could be an : infection, or endometriosis. If a fever, more likely infection, if getting worse see your doctor and be sure they are aware.

Hard to discern: The chest sounds like pleurisy with viral pneumonia, and can have abdominal component.
Full history and exam will be needed, and perhaps x-rays.

Exam needed: Swelling in the lower abdomen should not occur simply from a full bladder unless it is retaining abnormally large amounts of urine(like a quart). An abdominal hernia is a possibility in that area. An exam by your Gynecologist or a urologist is recommended.

Possible causes: If you still have your ovaries, they could be the cause; also could be an intestinal problem, or even your gallbladder (which can refer pain to the right shoulder).  Appendicitis is a possible cause.  Uncommon ovarian tumors can cause these symptoms.

Can be: Swelling can be due to gaseous distension, stool in the colon, a baby in the uterus, urine in the bladder, poor muscle tone.  It can also be due to abnormalities of the ovaries (cysts, tumors), kidneys (cyst, tumor, failure), uterus (fibroids, tumors), tubes (ectopic preg), liver (tumors, fat, scarring, failure), fluid deposition from sick liver, tumors, heart failure, tumor masses, etc. C ur doc.

i don t have very much pain often but i have had abdominal swelling on my right side for about a year or so now can you tell me what i should do ?

Se a dr: There are many causes for right sided abdominal swelling( abdominal wall muscular related, liver or gallbladder just to name a few). Some females taking bcp;s can develop benign liver tumors . Therefore a visit to a dr can rule out all the bad things , they may order an ultrasound exam or a ct scan if something is there.
