Need CT: If a ultrasound is not helpful, often a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis will better be able to identify if you have a hernia (defect in the abdominal wall fascia) It will also look at your intestines to see if you have an appendicitis or small bowel or colon problem. Sometimes a CT can be better at identifying other pathology such as an ovarian cyst or urachal cyst that would not be seen on US
