I would recommend a calorie restricted diet, with particular attention paid to avoiding high glycemic foods, like potatoes, bread, rice, sugar, cakes etc. Daily exercise would be important too, aiming for 45 minutes each day, aiming to get a little short of breath and sweaty. Hopefully things improve soon.

Also remember to drink at least 10 glasses of water daily as fat breakdown requires a large amount of hydration. Do not use artificial sweetners as they may increase your appetite.

Not likely . . .: Type 1 diabetes mellitus is due to pancreatic failure such that the pancreas no longer makes any insulin. That's why type 1 diabetics will forever need to take Insulin shots. Type 2 diabetes is typically due to obesity leading to Insulin resistance. In other words, the body requires more Insulin than the pancreas can produce. It's doubtful unless one large meal is composed of starchy sugary foods.
