Likely: The best test for iron deficiency anemia (ida) is ferritin. Sometimes when there is inflammation (an possible associated anemia of chronic disease/inflammation, the ferritin may increase as an acute phase reactant). The "gold standard" for diagnosis is a bone marrow biopsy, but rarely needed. High platelets are also associated with ida. Treatment should improve platelets and ferritin.

Suspect so: If the serum iron is in micrograms/dl, then this is not high but within the normal range, as it can be in iron deficiency in which the patient has perhaps taken an iron tablet or eaten steak recently.  If the units for TIBC are micrograms/dl, then TIBC is distinctly high and this speaks for iron deficiency in any case. Don't treat iron deficiency without seeking a cause.

Need to examine: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would have helped to have the actual values. She seems to have iron deficiency anemia and vitamin D deficiency. Both can be easily corrected. For glucose and TSH do need values. Talk to the doc who ordered tests.

Takes Time: Iron deficiency anemia treatment could take time to show improvement of blood parameters (hgb, MCV , platelet count) up to 2-3 months, longer if there is ongoing blood loss which sometimes needs to be addressed. Intravenous iron replacement is quicker and is indicated if one cannot absorb oral iron or needs rapid improvement.

Depends: Very low platelets can increase risk of bleeding - obviously could be dangerous. Very high platelets (usually above a million) could increase risk of clots (strokes etc) & even bleeding in certain high risk pts with "myeloproliferative" disorder. The most important question is what is the cause &  how high or how low. Sometimes platelets could increase because of iron deficiency or inflammation.

: Iron deficiency can explain all of these. Iron deficiency is common in woman due to menstrual blood loss. Take oral iron and multivitamin supplements. If that does not help your doctor can arrange intravenous iron treatment.

Context = everything: Let's consider: how "high" are your platelets, and how "low" is your calcium? Teeny differences are usually considered OK. If your doc is worried about the calcium, s/he may want to get an "ionized calcium" (more diagnostic). Regular calcium is usually bound to serum protein, so by itself is not meaningful. Re: platelets, same deal. What was rest of CBC? May want blood smear to see platelet shape
