been on low dose antibiotic for a year to prevent uti. suddenly develop red bumps on legs that keep appearing and now woke up and bottom of feet are very sore and hurt, is this a drug reaction?

Possible drug rxn: This could be a drug reaction.  The skin biopsy should clarify this.  If this turns out to be a reaction to Augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) there are alternatives that our physician can prescribe to prevent UTIs.

how do you treat a person who gets chronic uti's all the time? tests all normal. was on keflex  low dose for years and it helped, but not anymore.

Treat the cause: If you have not been investigated, you should be checked for stones, anatomic abnormalities etc. If all causes have been ruled out, you should consider a different antibiotic based on a culture result.

i have been on low dose amoxicillin for about 3 months. will this prevent accurate test results for a uti?

No it won't: Amoxicillin will prevent urinary tract infections.  If you develop an infection resistant Amoxicillin it should show up on a simple urinalysis.

: Good question but none should be used, especially in adult, because sooner or later resistant organism will emerge.

Accepted Answer

Prevention measures: Daily cranberry juice or pill will help to prevent uti. However, if there is multiple uti, then there may be a kidney stone, tumor, incontinence, dryness of vaginia, bladder dysfunction or urethrea problem. Urology consultation is therefore recommended to prevent from having long term UTI problems.

will low dose long term cephalexin get rid of uti's...plus hiprex...as i can't be on high dose long term..?

Accepted Answer

: It will likely help for a while to keep the bacteria counts in your urine low and this should decrease your infections. However, eventually the bacteria will get resistant to this antibiotic and then the bacteria counts will go back up. A different antibiotic will then be needed if another infection ensues. Urology may be able to help decrease your infections. Good luck!

can being on low dose antibiotics for 5 years to prevent uti's cause crohn's or ibd? i don't have diarreha, just constant intestinal pain.

No association: Long term antibiotics are not described as causing crohns.  If you have diarrhea you should be checked for c dificile and bacterial overgrowth. Crohns is an autoimmune disorder.  Irritable bowel disease is a gut nervous system disorder.

lasix is needed for chf/ckd fluid overload but causing burning during urination. should uti be suspected (finished antibiotic course).  should low dose antibiotic be considered if inflammation/uri is recurring?  will bumex work better in this case?

Need more informatio: This will need  urine evaluation and culture. That  information will help answer  your question.  Uncertain  lasix (furosemide) is the problem. You can discuss this with your physician.

can you get ovarian cyst while on low dose birth control? ive been on it for two years. im having some slight pelvic pain and lower back pain. going to doc to see about uti?

: Ovarian cyst(s) is (are) very common in women. In fact, birth control pill can prevent future cysts. Most of the time, ovarian cysts are asymptomatic.
