just started midodrine 2.5 mg every morning for low bp. (also on florinef). since midodrine,bp is normal but head feels dizzy. resting hr 40s & pounds?

Dizziness and a: pounding sensation in the head may be from an excessively elevated blood pressure. Sometimes, elevated BP can cause a reflex slowing down of the heart rate.  These may be signs of serious complications of midodrine.  Contact your doctor ASAP.  If s/he can't be reached, go to your nearest medical facility. Tell them you're taking midodrine.  At minimum, you need vital signs, clinical exam &amp; an EKG.

Side effects: All drugs have a potential for idiosyncratic potential adverse reactions.  If I were you, I'd stop the midodrine. Try simple remedies like liberalizing your salt and water intake (eat daily potato chips and salted nuts and drink plenty of water with them).  Good luck!

Proably cardiovascul: This can be from anemia, medication, electrolyte imbalance or endocrine problems. You need complete work up.

Are you taking any m: Are you taking blood pressure meds? It is not uncommon to feel light headed when you stand up quickly. Your blood pressure will drop a few degrees when you stand up. So if you are taking BP meds, you may have to reduce their dose(ask your doctor's advice.) if you are not tatking any meds, then you need to visit your doctor to investigate the cause of your posture related drop in bp.

Depends: Dosage usually three times a day. Start at 2.5 mg three times a day and can titrate up to 10 mg three times. Want to stabilize blood pressure without making the pressure too high. So titrate to BP and symtoms. I usually titrate to the lowest dose that resolves symptoms.

Low BP: Having low BP could cause dizziness. You need systematic work up to know the underlying cause of low bp. Anemia, dehydration, autonomic dysfunction, cortisol deficiency, thyroid deficiency, excessive bleeding during mensturation, drug induced like wise there are so many causes. You need work up. Consult a good physician.

Gastroenteritis: Increase your fluid intake to prevent dehydration. You may want to try vegetable soups that can help restore electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. Or mineral water or sports drinks like gatorade. If your gastroenteritis was causing diarrhea, also try the brat diet that includes bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast.

Postural Hypotension: Or low blood pressure upon standing is a common finding in people, even young people, on prolonged bed rest.  Getting up very slowly in stages helps.  Sitting up in bed for several minutes, then sitting with feet off the bed for several minutes while moving the legs, then standing with assistance while moving up and down on the legs.  Hydration and sitting rather than lying in bed will help.
