concerned about cousin, she has ms & leukemia for many years,but now blood work showed high liver levels, total protein 6.2, alt 210, ast 163, alkaline phoshatase 254.. had ultrasound & doc said nothing life threating but what would cause this,ideas?

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, what medications is she on? It is likely that medications may be part of the explanation of the results. If she drinks alcohol that may be an explanation too.

does the antibiotic augmentin cause elevated liver enzymes (alt/ast). im on in it and need blood work before my next ms treatment. just curios. ?

my daughters husband is being released from the hospital with covid 19 he was hospitalized on yesterday due to low oxygen level.  he is being released today and will it be safe to isolate him upstairs in a loft? my daughter has ms

Accepted Answer

COVID 19:  Will he be able to get attention if needed from the loft?  Is it temperature regulated? Does the loft have a door that opens and closes or is it just open to another part of the house. It is best that he be in a well ventilated area with a door that can be closed. He should wear a mask in anyone else's presence. Will he have access to a bathroom?  Keep surfaces really clean.

hyperparathyroidism? ms? no balance, migraines, bone pain, dizzy, lightheaded, high calcium levels, low d levels, chronic fatigue, memory loss, etc.

Hi blood calcium: Hi. Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is the most common cause of high blood calcium, but other causes are possible too. Has your doc checked your PTH hormone level and your 24-hour urinary calcium? Those are necessary to say it either is or is not PHPT. PHPT would account for many (not all) of your stated symptoms. I hope your doc is working up your high blood calcium! It can't be ignored!

i have ms.  i still work out using low impact cardio machines.  i do between 75 and 85 minutes 5 to 6 days a week.  is this too much?

Not necessarily: It is accepted that exercise can positively affect the immune system in ms.  If your exercise does not substantially over-heat your body, it is likely of great benefit.  Continue to stay fit, eat low fat items, manage stress, supplement vit d, and take your dmt's, and you should do well!

sarcoidosis - my  first ace level was 98 and now my second ace level is 111.  dr thinks sarc. not on meds. could ms, mg, etc. be the cause?

ACE levels: Ace can be elevated in sarcoidosis but it is not specific to this disease.  It can be elevated in TB or other granulomatous disease.  It is generally normal in ms, mg.

They may be: A variety of entities, including viral meningitis, can raise CSF lymphocytes.

i have ms. i had a metabolic profile done. sodium and protein levels were below normal levels. what does this mean?

Not an easy question: If this was one reading it may not mean much. Lab tests like those described often fluctuate. If you are concerned, ask for the tests to be repeated and ask your physician to interpret the findings as compared to the original tests.

what other grantulomas  disorders are there that could raise ace levels?  tb test is normal.  dr. believes i could have ms and sarc.  what are odds?

Combination is a ?: Do encounter patients with ms and other disorders, including lupus.  Not impossible to have sarcoid and ms, but regarding sarcoid, do you have typical lung involvement, and is the liver afflicted?  Do you have anergy on skin testing?  Regarding ms, are you fulfilling the mcdonald criteria, and does your spinal fluid have oligoclonal bands?  Discuss with your doctor and start therapy once confirmed.

i was diagnosed with addison's.  my test which i just took showed aldosterone lc/ms/ms	1 ng/dl .  my sodium results were within normal numbers.  is this indicating my cortisol is low?
