Vasc Malformation: There can be bleeding from an abnormal collection of blood vessels on the surface of the colon lining. A colonoscopy may be able to identify it and to rule out a tumor which might have been missed on the ct. Hemorrhoids could also cause bleeding but should be easier to diagnose. Nuclear bleeding scans and sometimes angiography are used to nail down the location of the bleeding.

Iron not cause: Oral iron tablets may make stool turn black, but it does not cause bright red blood in the stool.  However, rectal bleeding can lead to iron deficiency anemia, which can lead to a prescription for iron tablets.  Rectal bleeding should be evaluated, usually by endoscopy.

random black tar stool 3 weeks. night sweats last night today a lot of blood in stool.  is this emergency or can it wait 5 days for dr. appt?

Emergency: Black and tarry stool for 3 weeks and today with a lot of fresh blood in stools indicates that you are most likely having GI (gastrointestinal) bleeding. I urge you to go to the er immediately for evaluation since GI bleeding can be severe and serious. All the best, hk.

Various colors: Make sure by doing a hemocult test. It depends where the blood originates, what the color is. if you are hemocult positive, you may need a colonoscopy. Hopefully it is just your diet. All the best

Rectal exam: Your symptoms may be due to hemorrhoids or a rectal fissure. A rectal exam should be done. In the meantime take a stool softener, apply warm compresses to the anal area, and insert a glycerin or anusol suppository or ointment for easier bm and soothing of the discomfort. Keep the anal area clean after using a suppository or ointment.

how can i tell difference between blood in stool and pieces of food? i ate a lot of watermelon yesterday. my next bm was full of red, stringy things?

Probably food: If you want to determine if red stuff in your stool is blood or food, when you use toilet paper to clean yourself, blood will stain the paper red, while food will not stain, but remain whole on the paper.  Also, blood will usually make the commode water reddish like food coloring in water, while food in stool will not run like that.  You can ask your doctor for a stool guaiac test to be sure.

See doc: From your symptoms i would recommend seeing a physician. If you are bleeding tests will need to be done to determine where it is coming from and what is causing it.  This may definitely cause fatigue.

Hematochezia: You will need an urgent evaluation by your doctor to find the source and cause of lower gi-bleeding. There are many possibilities why this bleeding is happening. Hope your doctor will do a perfect job to get the correct diagnosis.

See pediatrician : for further work up and advice for diet and fiber and activity level. May need to test for food allergies or other things affecting your baby's bowel habits, hydration and  such.

Blood & Mucus: Work-up should be done to determine if you have inflammatory bowel disease(ulcerative colitis or crohn's ) depending upon the duration of the symptoms , there may of course be other explanation.  Evaluation may include stool samples and direct visualization of the colon by sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy . See your doctor for evaluation.
