i thought i strained my voice singing but i started coughing up hard green mucus this morning. am i getting sick or is it from singing?

Possibilities: It could be a combination.  Voice strain doesn't cause green mucus.  Recommend voice rest, good hydration &amp;  boil freshly sliced, peeled ginger root in water until the tea is tan. Add 3 tbsp of honey. Sip to help relieve sore throat pain and to accelerate healing of laryngitis.  *

Likely a URI: How long has this been going on?  I'd get to a doctor so they can determine if this is something that needs antibiotics or otherwise intervention in some way.  Any fever?  They will want to know.  Just go get checked out...

Dr. can check throat: Hard to guess the cause. Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or other virus (antibiotics usually not used), allergies or irritants, sinusitis, stomach acid reflux, etc... Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep and to see if sinusitis might be a cause).

A couple days of throat lozenges and tylenol (acetaminophen) can decrease throat pain.

Go to pulmonary dr: You may be experiencing sequela from inhalation injury from the fire 30 days ago. Irritation of the the lungs and airways can incite an inflammatory response with bronchospam and  an outpouring of inflammatory exudate and edema. I hope you feel better soon.

Green mucus: If you have had a head cold a week or so ago and are now coughing up significant amounts of discolored sputum, a bacterial bronchial infection is likely and a course of an appropriate antibiotic would be advisable. Contact your physician for instructions.In the meantime drink adequate fluids and take an expectorant cough syrup to continue to raise secretions.

Shades of color: Both yellow and green mucus indicate pus and break down of cells with possible bacterial growth indicating an infection. Smokers have chronic inflammation in their lungs and can have purulent mucus without an infection. Anyhow, you ned to have it checked.
