First signs: Losing the mucus plug is one of the first signs that a woman will go into labor. Whether sweeping the membranes caused the mucous plug to come out or not has no impact on how labor will progress. It can take 2 or three days, though, before labor pains will start.

Sounds like it: It's very possible you are experiencing signs and symptoms of early labor.  Time your contractions and if they are getting more frequent, you should get checked out by your doctor.

Very variable: Some patients will go into labor in a few hours, others may not start labor more than a few days. If your contractions start getting closer (every 4-5 minutes), or you start leaking fluid call your doctor. You may spot after having your membranes stripped, but heavier bleeding should also prompt a call.

I don't : I don't strip membranes for the reason you described. It has a low success rate and only gets women's hopes up. And, it causes a lot of cramping and bleeding which no fun either. Be patient, if you can let your labor start naturally, you will happier in the end.

Varies: Although the loss of the mucus plug suggests that things are moving in the right direction and the cervix is thinning and dilating, it says nothing about actual active labor. You can stay this way for hours or days and if its first baby, maybe a week or two. On the positive side, it could also herald the start of labor and you could find yourself in the delivery room tonight:-)

Due: Your OB has done some procedures to get you started on your own.  Induction is not without complication so he will probably wait till you are 41 weeks to induce as most OBs do not like patients to go much later.  Good Luck!!
