Individual variation: Lorazepam is shorter acting than clonazepam. Some people feel better with a shorter agent and taking it more frequently during the day while others prefer a longer acting agent and taking it less frequent. However it does not always follow what seems to be simple pharmacokinetics.

It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. Quit while you are ahead.

I  like melatonin.: Valerian root ; chamomile are also popular. Insure that you use good sleep hygiene. Retire ; rise same time each day. Keep bedroom dark ; cool ; use only for sex ; sleep. Turn off tv. No naps. Exercise regularly but not in late evening. No caffeine for 6 hrs ; no alcohol or tobacco w/i 2 hrs of sleep. Keep dinner moderate sized ; finish at least 2 to 3 hrs before sleep. Can try warm milk.

Impairment: The fact that you have had accidents suggests you are impaired even though you don't notice it. You should not take Ativan (lorazepam) if you are going to drive. Discuss this with your doctor.

Did : Did you have the problem before the medications?  Many meds can thicken saliva and mucus--this is typically only a nuisance problem and not a danger.  Other causes can be reflux of acid into the throat area (phlegm, throat clearing, cough, feeling of a throat lump, hoarseness are all common with that).  If you are having asthma or bronchitis, the foamy stuff could be coughed from the lungs.  It may also be normal physiologic processes--we make up to 1.5-2 liters of slaiva on any given day.
