a massive floater appear in my line of vision, in the right eye. it shifted into a large, red splotch for some time before it began to lighten. it is hard to see through that eye and it looks like i am looking through water. i am also diabetic. help?

Need dilated exam: Especially being a diabetic, your symptoms are consistent with blood in the eye (vitreous hemorrhage). If so, you may have advanced diabetic retinal/macular disease. The sooner you seek care from a retinal specialist the better your prognosis. Proliferation Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) is potentially blinding.

Refractive index: The easiest explanation is that human eyes are "built" to work in air. Water bends light waves more than air does, and our eyes need a layer of air in front of them in order to focus. That its why a pair of goggles helps you see under water.

Corneal edema: Likely this is due to some mild corneal edema but perhaps due to chemical irritation &/or dryness.  Usually symptoms improve overnight.  Artificial tears may help some as well.

WatchOut!You're Dry!: Yes, if you're dying of thirst and dehydration, for whatever reason.Ok, maybe just significantly dehydrated.Dry eyes and all.Or maybe the minerals in your blood are all out of whack and need some water to straighten them out, but in those circumstances something else is probably seriously wrong. That clear jelly in your eye has a lot of water in it.Over a long time,if it dries out, that's bad.

If the: excessive watering is due to allergies an oral antihistamine may be helpful!

when looking through a pinhole the double vision goes away in the upper half. on the bottom half it does go away but its not as clear its slightly bent. like when light bends through water. is this normal for monocular diplopia?

: The pinhole corrects the need for eyeglass correction.  You have proven that you probably need to see an ophthalmologist who can derive the proper prescription so you can get a pair of eyeglasses and see clearly.  A pinhole correction almost always means that better eyeglasses will make you see clearly and that there is little chance of anything else that would be a problem. Have an eye check.

Blurry visiion: Please see an MD eye doctor ASAP.  You MAY be experiencing a detached retina or maybe something else but it is crucial that you know what is happening.  The sooner you catch this the better.  Peace and good health.

Need more info: This could be many things. You are having paresthesias (abnormal neurologic sensations) and visual complaints. This could be a neurologic problem or many other things. You need to give a detailed history to your doctor, get a thorough exam, and go from there. It will be difficult to give you good information in this forum.

i have a problem with my eyes.my vision is clear, however, my eyes are  painful,  dry ,red and often feel like i haven't slept or i swam in salt water.they are also sensitive to light(sun and computer).should i consult an optometrist?

Dry Eye: It could be dry eye syndrome, however consult of a professional is always of value. You could however you could try Tears drops twice or three times a day. Good Luck

Metabolic problem?: Your constellation of symptoms could reflect possible diabetes, hypothyroidism, hormonal changes. I would recommend making an appointment with your pcp for lab studies asap.
