Many things: There are many diseases that affect the bone marrow and have different consequences, e.g., leukemia, anemia, low platelet count and bleeding, low white blood count and infections etc.

It varies greatly: Bone marrow has lots of reserve, so it can be partly diseased, yet the body has no effect. But once the bone marrow is completely diseased or damaged, then the body will have all kinds of effects in the form of anemia(low hemoglobin), low WBC and low platelet counts and the complications of infections and bleeding as a result of low blood counts.

No.: The very definition of a disease is that it is a condition which adversely affects health. So if you really have a disease in the marrow it's likely to make you feel sick sooner or later.

: Most of the time, bone marrow stem cells are mobilized with medication and collected from peripheral blood. The process takes about 6 hours. You bones do not need to be punctured to collect bone marrow stem cells.

The hip: Biopsies are taken from the upper back portion of the hip.  Occasionally, if a suction aspiration is needed, a breastbone puncture can be used.

Could be serious: She needs to be under the care of a hematologist, a specialist in blood disorders. As long as she is making adequate amount of blood(can be checked with a cbc, blood test), she is not in any immediate danger. But sometimes bone marrow can shut down production completely. This may be a serious problem... Should seek second opinion, if need.

i have neutropenia my latest bone marrow biopsy shows that my marrow won't store iron how can i get and keep the iron in my body that i need?

You need a good Hema: A consultation with a hematologist is advised. Low iron can reduce red cell formation and cause anemia but it does not affect white cells( to cause neutropenia).

i have been having chronic pain perticularly in hips, but all over my body. i had a bone marrow biopsy done and i go back for results in a week.?

Work up: Since you had a bone marrow biopsy you must have some abnormalities on a recent blood count. The results may help answer your question.  If results are negative i would also do a eval for possible rheumatoid conditions. I hope the biopsy is ok.

i've get through bone marrow transplant about 1 and a half year ago. but why my body still get sick easily and my immune system getting  worst?

Bone marrow: It is a tough procedure to receive.  Your body is still recovering from all therapy you received in the past. Perhaps your WBC are still low too- that makes you prone to have infection. If you had an allogeneic transplant and are taking medication for gvhd for instance- that can also affect your white blood cell and makes you immunocompromised. I recommend you to f/u with your transplant team.

when a pet scan is done for multiple myeloma, is it to look at the solid lesions or a full body scan to look at bone marrow?

Both: A pet scan  usually is done with either a ct or MRI to create a 3-d image that evaluates the amount of active tracer seen in either the organs or bones- if a person has mm- it can efficiently detect activity in the bone marrow and can help guide treatment.  There have been many studies done to determine how useful pet is in mm and it has overall been found very beneficial.
