How long a person can live with liver failure depends on the reversibility of the injury and the severity of the injury. This can range from days to several months. Liver transplantation can be curative, in some cases.

Safe if monitored: Accutane (isotretinoin) is effective for cystic acne. As with many drugs, there are associated side effects that need close monitoring.  For this reason, Accutane should only be taken under a physician's care. We are mostly concerned about fetal abnormality if pregnant while on accutane.  Other side effects include but not limited to depression, liver and lipid abnormalities, etc...

Aslo eat healthy and avoid fatty liver which accompanies over eating and execessive weight. Eat healthy which is to consume low sugared foods with ample amounts of fruits and veggies with each meal.

See Hepatologist: Your husband has a serious set of medical problems, end-stage liver failure from hepatitis C complicated by portal hypertension from cirrhosis and liver cancer.    I suggest that he see a liver specialist, a hepatologist, to care for his condition and assess options - with a background of alcohol abuse, he might not be a liver transplant candidate but there may be other options.  Do this ASAP
