Liver cell injury: AST and ALT are liver enzymes that go up in blood when liver cells are injured. Common causes are alcohol, obesity, hepatitis and drug reactions. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely. If you are overweight, lose weight. If you take medications, talk to your doctor about those. Additional tests may be needed as well.

Liver Disease: One can go into liver failure if their enzymes are more than five times normal. Your labs are four to eight times normal.  This is very dangerous and must be addressed urgently to determine the cause of the problem.

: Such high enzyme levels indicate rather severe liver damage, such as acute hepatitis. Whether there is risk of permanent damage and ultimate cirrhosis depends on the cause, how long the problem has been present, and other factors. For example, potentially very different outcomes between viral hepatitis, alcohol, drug toxicity (like acetaminophen overdose), autoimmune, etc. Discuss w/ your doctor.

bilirubin level is 20 (normal 0-20). blood count and others all normal. ggt is 17 range of 0-37. individual alt and ast are normal (alt is 13 range of 0-55 & ast is 24 range of 0-34). but alt/ast ratio is high. should i get further liver tests?

: No, not at all.  Your liver and kidney function are in excellent shape.  Increasing the level of exercise would be of help in decreasing BUN/creatinine ratio.

: Many simple upper airway viruses will not trigger changes in your liver enzymes. However, gut viruses or flu like illnesses often do. If you are sure it is a simple URI no delay would be needed. If you are not sure, wait 2 weeks and do it later.
