i have a surgery in 4 days for a revision to my gastric sleeve surgery. im feeling like im fighting a very mild cold. is there something i can take to not interfere with me having the surgery? also would getting an iv vitamin infusion be ok?

: This issue should be immediately reported to your physician and staff. It may not be prudent to continue with your planned surgery at this time. Better to be safe than sorry.

reason for drop in bp upon wakingup or standing,knowing that i eat&take vitamins&sometimes experience hypoglycemia even though i have eaten? &reason for starting urination lightly then increasing? gastric sleeve 11months ago&treated leak 5months ago?

Accepted Answer

: You need to be evaluated by your doctor to determine the etiology of all your symptoms. You may need further testing. It would be helpful to test your blood pressure and heart rate sitting/standing to see if there is a pressure drop when you stand up which could indicate some dehydration. So, see your doctor-you may need labs checked as well if not done recently. Good luck!

gastric sleeve patient whose vitamin b-12 deficient & is now having trouble w/ neurological issues, had a seizure & lately seems unable to even walk.

More than B12: Nutritional deficiencies other than B12 can occur, even copper deficiency (which I have seen).  If you are taking keppra, (levetiracetam) i assume that you are already seeing a neurologist.  Panels for other nutrients are important, ask that has/has not been tested for.

i started 2 week liquid diet for gastric sleeve today. others who have had this done had only one week or a few days of liquid. why is every doc diff?

Gastric sleeve: Your doctor is being cautious. Your doctor does not want your surgical  area to over-stretch from food or from rapid ingestion.  If you overstretch too soon, then the surgical area may separate.  The caution is good.

how often should i eat  clear liquids  one week out of gastric sleeve surgery?  it feels as though i am hungry every hour . is this normal?

Talk to dr: Every surgeon has their own protocol for when to advance your diet to the next stage. If you if d yourself being hungry all the time try increasing your protein intake..

Diet now?: Are you eating solids yet or still liquids only? If you are still on all liquid diet, it is possible you’re drinking too much at once and this is leading to the vomiting. Try drinking smaller amounts but more frequently. Be sure to take your stomach-protecting meds. You should also call your surgeon and let them know what is going on-you don’t want to get dehydrated. Congrats on your weight loss!

i had gastric sleeve in march 2020 is it possible to stretch out my pouch i am gaining sum weight back or could it be because my hashimotos thyroiditis? thank you?

: You can gain weight with hypothyroidism or you stop following recommended diet after losing the excess weight or a combination of both.

Depends..: What you can eat depends on how far out from surgery you are.. Every surgeon has a different protocol for advancing diet after surgery. However, once you are several months since surgery you can eat pretty much whatever you want. Just a lot less of it.

Yes: After gastric sleeve surgery can get pregnant , but at age  41 you may have to see a fertility expert

Life changing: Make sure you talk fully with your surgery team before surgery and that you have a full understanding of the surgery and consequences BEFORE you do it. It is lifechanging. First few days after surgery can entail some nausea,pain,etc. Long term, your stomach will hold less food; protein should be the focus. Each program is a little different; talk in depth with a skilled bariatric surgeon.
