i have a lipoma on my left forearm that interferes with my music playing. if i have it removed what is the likelihood that it would come back?  are there any non-surgical options?

Lipoma: Steroid injections result in local fat atrophy, thus shrinking (or, rarely, eliminating) the lipoma. Injections are best performed on lipomas less than 1 inch in diameter. A one-to-one mixture of 1 percent Lidocaine (xylocaine) and triamcinolone acetonide (kenalog), in a dosage of 10 mg per ml, is injected into the center of the lesion; this procedure may be repeated several times monthly.

do i have to have the lipoma on my arm removed of its growing and how is the removal preformed step by step?

Lipoma: Lipomas are for the most part benign collections of fatty cells.   They tend to be superficial so they can be removed using local anesthesia and simple excision.   If they are small - it can be done in the office.  The doctor numbs the skin and then makes an incision down to the level of the lipoma and "shells it out - closure is usually with sutures (stiches) or staples.

Depends on : Location and size, but not likely, if you can be sure that it is lipoma and nothing more serious.  Get a surgeon to look at it just to make sure that it is indeed nothing more than lipoma and whether it is cause of your pain.

Surgeon: Lipoma can be multiple and recur. If they are growing or are located in a sensitive area, a recommendation for surgical removal is made. Outpatient surgery is ususally adequate, so you can avoid hospital stay. Take friend/family with you to your appointment to help ask questions. Be well.

Lipmoa: Lipoma is a benign fatty nodule located under the skin. They are rubbery and move under the skin. Lipomas can be multiple, so it is possible that you have more than one. Can observe unless growing or causing discomfort.

Near nerve: lipomas are benign fat lesions.  For the most part malignant transformation does not occur and lesions remain dormant in growth patterns and are unassociated with pain.  Should a benign lipoma grow to more than 10 cm., become painful and adhere to surrounding structures they need bx.  If smaller lipoma is painful, it is growing or associated with an adjacent sensory nerve.

No.: Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of a lipoma is to surgically remove it.  Happily, these are often very minor operations that can be performed in an office setting under local anesthesia in less than 30 minutes.  If this lipoma is interfering with the quality of your life, i recommend seeing a surgeon.

Start with reg doc: Just start with your regular doc. Depending on the size and location of the lipoma, it should be fairly straightforward to remove. They will likely set you up with a surgeon to have it further evaluated and removed.
