Typically not: In fact, after the initial injury, an acl tear does not usually cause much pain.  Instability is the main complaint with an isolated acl tear.

It can: Acutely following that injury can cause edema in the thigh. If this an older injury or you are status post reconstruction could be sign of deep vein thrombosis which needs to be evaluated, talk to your orthopedist.

Bakers Cyst: A Baker's cyst is a common cause of a lump behind the knee. This condition develops when joint fluid leaks out from the joint cavity into the tissues behind your knee. Other causes include infections, bleeding, trauma, and, rarely, tumors. Bakers Cysts typically resolve on their own with rest of the affected limb. Avoid stretching, active exercise and straining muscles for 1-2 weeks.

Knee injury: Usually knee swelling will resolve over 4-6 weeks with an isolated ligament tear, such as ACL or MCL tear. If swelling persists, you may have additional damage in the knee, like a meniscus tear, or damaged joint cartilage. Recommend MRI of the knee to assess for these injuries.

Could be or could be: Other causes , you should r/o pregnancy as ectopic sometiems could cause pain like that or an ovarian cyst or a hernia of the groin, you should see your gyn asap or the er for an exam blood work and an ultrasound to start out with.

Laxity: Ligament sprains over time or multiple injuries to the same joint will result in ligament laxity or attenuation - a stretching of the ligaments. Resistance exercises or strengthening your ankle and knee muscles will tighten those muscles and tendons and help reduce the laxity. Surgery can be performed is cases where the muscles and ligaments are both stretched/ laxed to tighten them up.

Rehab: In most cases rehabilitative exercises for patients with ligament tears focus on the surrounding muscaluture. Strengthening the surrounding muscles will help them compensate for the ligament tear, but you should still see a physician to help determine the extent of your ligament damage, and whether therapy or surgery will help you the most.

Rest: may rest for max 2 wks, warm water shower, massage. then may start start light passive exercises. Alleve 400 mg 2x a day may help.
