i think i've been taking too much levothyroxine. how long will it take for symptoms to subside if the dose is lowered? the symptoms: intestinal upsets, weight loss, sore muscles (especially in the legs), atrial fibrillation, etc. blood tests coming?

Too much levothryoxi: It will depend on how high your levels were.  Await blood tests. A fib is a serious complication of too much is you did not have it before.  Tell you team.

Only if hypothyroid: If a person has hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone levels), she can be treated with levothyroxine, which would be her replacement thyroid hormone. If her low thyroid condition caused her to gain weight (which does occur in hypothyroidism), she will likely lose the weight when her hormone levels normalize by taking levothyroxine.

Not a good idea: A high dose of thyroid will increase your metabolic rate, but also your appetite. Will also raise your heart rate, give palpitations, stress your heart, make you hot all the time, anxious, and much more.  In the medical field, this would be a clear misuse of the medication.

Weight and thyroid: Hi. Assuming your hypothyroidism is treated, it's not the cause or a factor in your overweight/obesity. The 4 prescription drugs that are FDA-approved for chronic treatment for weight loss can all be used with treated hypothyroidism: Qsymia, Belviq, (lorcaserin) Contrive, and (when it becomes available), Saxenda. Eat healthily and exercise regularly. Talk with a doctor to see if weight loss drugs are indicated

Not exactly: 25 mcg of levothyroxine is a rather small dose. To expect that to raise your metabolism is not realistic. But then the dose you need depends on how hypothyroid you are. You just do not take the medication to raise metabolism if you are not hypothyroid.

It : It could take up to 3 months for levothyroxine to fully clear your system. This medication typically takes a few weeks to be effective in the body. It is not advised to halt taking this medication, and may doctors will typically recommend weaning the doses, decreasing intake until you are off.

Stick with: It.  Usually plateaus only last shirt while.   Maybe change the routines up A bit.  Fake the body out.   This might get you back in track

What pill?: I'm not sure what type of pill you mean- one that claims to stimulate the thyroid? That's ok but you prob. Need more levothyroxine ;/or to add t3 (liothyronine). 50 mcg is a small dose. Your doc probably thinks its enough because your TSH is ok. Check free t3 (liothyronine)- i like my patients to be in upper half of normal range.
