gingival recession vs abrasion lesion, what's the difference?

Abrasion just: means an irritation or wound on an area. but gingival recession means your gums are receding or shrinking or pulling back from the teeth they are meant to protect, see your dentist for answers and treatment options

Need more info: Where are the lesions located. And what do the lesions look like and how long do they last, are they painful. Any other symptoms. See your doctor when they are broken out.

A good pelvic: Exam with a speculum can see abraisions on the cervix, an ultrasound can see some problems of the tubes like dilated tubes or a mass involving tubes and ovaries and sometimes can see an ectopic pregnancy in the tubes.

See dermatologist: You may have a vasculitic skin lesions (meaning that the  blood vessels in your skin may be inflamed) and thus a derm consult is needed ( a skin biopsy may be in order).

Peroxide : Clean it with peroxide and apply otc antibiotic ointment on top twice daily until healed, and leave it open as much as you can, just keep it clean.

Abrasions: If the abrasions are dirty/ contaminated - may need to use some force to remove this and then flush well with water. If the abrasions are clean - you may wish to use a gentler stream and would avoid water that is very hot.

what's the fastest way to heal an abrasion?

Accepted Answer

Keep it clean: Thoroughly clean an abrasion, remove any foreign material, apply a topical antibiotic cream if wound was dirty or is deep.. Sometimes it is helpful to cover the wound to keep it clean but many small abrasions can heal well when exposed to air as long as they are kept clean.
