Yes it is but: Yes you can get flu shot in your leg but that's not the proper site to give flu shot.It is an intramuscular vaccine and can be injected in any muscle.

Vaccine misadventure: Placing in in the wrong spot ( too deep or too shallow in the muscle bulk can cause irritation!)  sometimes a little tug or pull during im injection can irritate some delicate tissue! a little Benadryl (diphenhydramine) warm compress and avoiding scratching might go a long way!  if it worsens,  a quick visit to your md will take care of it!  good luck!

Allergy: Since its so widespread and there is a temporal (time) relationship between drug and rash onset, this might be allergy to flu shot or one of its components.

Sounds accurate: Cannot imagine a neurologic reaction to flu vaccine except that there have been some cases of guillion-barre syndrome (a form of ascending paralysis) associated rarely with vaccinations.  The recommendation you received is good as long as you follow up quickly if you are not getting better and definitely if you develop any other symptoms.

Sounds like flu symp: Even though u have had a flu shot u r not sure of 100% protection from the flu. Treat it as such. But if u r not improving or develop new symptoms such as neck pain with head movement or neck flexion, c ur pcp right away.

Flu protection: baby: The immunity conferred by the trivalent or quadrivalent flu shot will be conferred on your infant by passage of antibodies via the placenta, and this "passive" immunity will last only a short time, b/c newborns do not develop their own immune system for some time after birth.  The length of time will probably last through flu season, in any case.
