Pinched nerve: Because patients having cardiac problems can have these symptoms, you should have this ruled out.  But the most common cause is an irritation of a nerve in the neck by a bone spur or herniation that can cause pain or numbness that runs down the arm into the hand.  An MRI can usually show the cause of the problem if it does not resolve.  Thank you for the question.

Rotator cuff tear: you could have a rotator cuff tear. You need to see your physician and see a orthopedic surgeon or rheumatologist to help make the diagnosis

Rotator cuff: @ your age pain w/ motion away from your body is most likely related to the rotator cuff.Tendinitis/ bursitis can also cause pain w/ sleeping on the affected side.The rotator cuff initiates abduction of the arm and are important " fine tuners" of motion, esp. External rotation in conjunction w/ the powerful deltoid. If your pain continues or u develop any weakness see your ors. Gl!

sometimes,my left shoulder hurts. when it hurts, it gets worse by eating cold water or ice cream. even eating bananas or dates increases the pain. and of course, if i drink boiling water, the pain decreases or even disappears for a while.what problem?

LUQ pain : May be related to gastritis, or could be pancreas or spleen or even from lung or colon or even ovary/uterus. Would get imaging Ultrasound/ CT of abdomen( sometimes you see stuff on U/S you dont see on CT) - make sure you are not pregnant first  and Follow up w/ MD. if it were the right side I would say gallbladder as shoulder pain is not uncommon but it is on the right not left.

: Possible emerging impingement problem such as adhesive capsulitis or rotator cuff tear.  But alternatively, there may be a problem within the brachial plexus.  Testing for hypothyroidism and diabetes plus MRI of shoulder might be approaches.  If no answer here, EMG of arm might be done to assess thoracic outlet.  First, consult with orthopedic surgeon.

Maybe important: Is your pain changed with deep breaths?  Is your pain affected by moving your shoulder or pressing against your shoulder?  Is your pain affected by pushing on your middle of chest?  If your answer is yes, then you have a musculoskeletal problem ( issue relating to bone, muscle or other connective tissue and not heart).

If answer no and you have a family history of heart attacks, go to emergency!

Probably the three most common causes are a problem in the shoulder itself, such as a rotator cuff tear, a problem in the neck such as a pinched nerve, or a non -musculoskeletal, referred pain to the left shoulder. Each cause has different treatments, so appropriate diagnosis is key.
