i've had muscle twitching in my left pectoral muscle for four days. it happens on and off at different times and at different intensities. no other symptoms or issues. i am 35, exercise 5 days a week, and in good health. what could be the cause?

Electrolyte : Alterations in your electrolytes through loss in sweat may be the cause.  Try drinking fruit juice with a small amount of added salt. Drink enough water so your urine is mostly colorless. If the symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks, it would be prudent to seea doctor.

Fasciculations: These can be from medications (allergy/decongestants and others) recent exercise and nerve issues, to name a few.  If prolonged (over two to three days,) review with primary care provider.

See a doctor: Occasional muscle twitching is normal. If your arm is twitching all day this needs to be evaluated by a physician.

Fasiculation: This is most likely something called a fasiculation. It is an isolated muscle twitch in one area that lasts temporarily. A good example is an eye twitch. If the symptoms continue, worsen, or move to include other muscles you should see your doctor. It could be a sign of an underlying neurologic disorder.

: Neither. It will fade in time with no treatment. If you must, heat improves blood flow &amp; might speed recovery.

Skin tingling: Have a doctor look at the skin on your scalp. I always think of shingles when I hear this kind of story. Often the tingling feeling starts a couple days before the rash appears. This is the time to see a doctor, because the earlier you get started on the medication for shingles, the more it will help. After 48 hrs of the rash, the medicine doesn't make much of a difference.

It depends: Involuntary muscle twitching can be caused by electrolyte imbalances (low potassium, for example); overuse (fatigue), some neurological conditions (writer's cramp among other things) dehydration, and even some medications or discontinuation of medication.  If it continues and is a concern see your pcp for a more thorough history and examination.

forgot to ask. muscle twitching on left side of neck. my question is if not related to diabetes what else could it be and will it lead to death? im extremely scared?

Muscle Twitching: Muscle twitching is caused by minor muscle contractions in the area. Causes include lack of nutrients in the diet, medication side effects, lack of sleep, too much caffeine/exercise/stress, medical conditions that cause metabolic disorders, including low potassium, kidney disease, and uremia. If Calcium /Magnesium supplement may help. If symptoms continue see a DR.

Ask your Dr.: for a basic chemistry blood panel to check for low electrolytes.  This can cause what your experiencing, but it can just be nothing too.
