You cant: By yourself.  Numbess and pain is a parasthesia and is not normal.  If persistent it need to be examined with a neuro workup and exam and also to look at your back.  It can be the nerve or your back.  You can;t figure it out yourself.

Sciatica: You have sciatica.  Avoid heavy lifting and see a physical therapist and your doctor.  If you have a fever or bowel and bladder changes go to an ed.

Could be dangerous: like a blood clot or stroke.  Given your history of hypertension, you should be seen and should not wait.  Good luck.

Sciatica : Sciatica or spinal stenosis.Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body.

Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disk, bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis) compresses part of the nerve.

Sounds like a : Radiculopathy ( nerve pain ).Could be from pressure anywhere along the nerve from above the area of pain/numbness.See your doctor if persists.Danger signs are weakness in the affected leg and persistant numbness.Also watch out for incontinence.

dr tried placing epidural during labour four times but it never worked. it made my right leg numb once and left leg another time. why didn't it work?

woke up with my buttocks sore and painful mostly noticeable when i sit down. as the day has progressed, my left leg has become increasingly numb, sore and a tad painful that also worsens when i sit down.. what could this be?

Possible Disc issues: Sitting can place more pressure on a lower back spinal disc which can then cause low back pain with radiation to the buttocks or the legs depending on the condition of the disc. A full examination by your Health Care Provider is needed and may lead to a MRI exam to deliniate the exact problem.

Cyst: Without having seen the images, I can only talk in general.  White areas on MRI are commonly cysts or fatty tumors.  These are benign and not to worry about.  Occasionally, a white area can be a cancer or infection but this is easily differentiated from a cyst or lipoma.  Your doctor should be able to tell the difference from the pictures.

i woke up at night with my left leg feeling swollen and numb. it was gone next morning. there is a sore spot behind and below my left knee.

Leg swelling: If true swelling of the leg occurs and there is discomfort or tenderness behind the knee or in the calf, phlebitis is a concern and a leg ultrasound is recommended. A Baker's cyst is another possibility. In any event I feel that you should be examined by a physician and he/she will order any appropriate tests.

had nerve condition test and muscle test  said no nerve damage but muscle damage in  l-5  back and left leg do not understand leg numb tingling months?

Test not sensitive: A nerve conduction test is not particularly sensitive when it comes to detecting nerve pain and irritation. It can be helpful to demonstrate medium to long term nerve damage, but this is not a test I routinely use for patients with nerve pain derived from the lumbar spine because it is not helpful.
