Dysfunction: Dysfunction of your jaw (temporomandibular) joint.  While there is no recognized specialty in Dentistry called TMJ, many general and specialist Dentist's have expertise in treating the jaw joints and associated tissues.  Start with your General Dentist who may offer you treatment or refer you to a colleague.  Help is available.

Yes it can: The temporal mandibular joint is a complex hinged joint. Since it allows you open the mouth by lowering the  mandible (lower jaw) it can dislocate or cause spasm to floor,of the moth muscles by hyper opening. This may be able to be replaced via manipulation.,see a dentist for evaluation, although is learned it in PMR residency

difficult opening mouth and severe jaw pain 2 weeks after root canal. what can be causing this?

TMJ problem...: Your symptoms point to TMJ problem. You may have the problem prior to the appt. But it has not surfaced yet and during the root canal treatment you must open your mouth wide for a long time. This can trigger the symptoms. You can use hot and cold moist facial towels intermittenly applied at the joint area. Longer (around 30 sec.) with the heat vs. 10 sec. Cold. Contact your dentist.

Stretched.: You had wisdom teeth removed and your jaw hurts.  This is because it was stretched open during surgery.  Normally the jaw remains closed.  Over time the soreness resolves.  Make sure you don't smoke it can dry the sockets.  Walk daily.  Drink fluids.  Be well.

can a wisdom tooth coming in cause limited opening of mouth? i have tmj.. but i cant open my mouth all the way and i think i can see where the tooth is starting to come in. is that normal? also have headaches and jaw pain on that side

Yes, it can: Inflammation of the tissues surrounding that wisdom tooth can cause the symptoms your described. It may be time to take that wisdom tooth out. Please see a local dentist to be evaluated.

i have had left sided ear, jaw, pain; also left tingling tongue roof of mouth,  nearly constant 9 mos.  have been to many drs, many tests. ideas?

Jaw pain: Have you been examined by your dentist for these symptoms?  If there have been no medical problems found and no injuries or trauma to your head or face, then your symptoms may be the result of TMJ disfunction.
These are symptoms of chronic bruxism (teeth grinding and/or clenching).
If all medical problems have been ruled out, see your dentist.

jaw/mouth pain for 3 yrs. no lesions, normal lymph nodes. been to ent. left sided migraines past 16 yrs. always left ear pain with it. now jaw pain everyday. bulging c3 disc. nsaids do nothing. constant ache every day. klonopin helps sometimes. help!

No easy answer.: There is definitely a reason for your  problem.  Each possibility has to be addressed and ruled out until there is a diagnosis. I would want to be sure TMJ syndrome has been ruled out
