Skull base defect: You need to see an otolaryngologist.  You may need a ct scan and MRI scan.

An audiogram may be ordered.

The leakage can come from the skull base around the nose or the ear.

This can be due to trauma, an encephalocele, prior surgery, etc.

An untreated leak can cause meningitis.

my husband hit his face about a month ago. he has a very watery nasal discharge, but also has allergy symptoms. should we worry about brain fluid leak?

Yes: Ask your doctor to check for glucose in his nasal secretion. If positive, then you need to find out where the leak is coming from (most likely from the area of the skull next to the nose).  Don't delay.

Much more likely : that your chronic inflammation of the sinus has blocked drainage &amp; caused mucus to be retained in your maxillary sinuses. Seek evaluation by an ENT specialist. This would not necessarily explain your unwanted weight loss, especially if the fluid is not chronically infected.

Insects in the nose.: Yes and so can some amoeba. But insects would be very unlikely. If you are watching TV where ants go into the brain the only way this can happen would be for you to buried to you neck and have honey poured over your head next to an ant hill. or you get attacked by army ants.

Yes: Leaks from the nose or ear are fairly common after head trauma or surgical mishaps. They are often missed until a clever physician tests the fluid for glucose using a reagent test strip. Spinal fluid leaks after a lumbar puncture are troublesome.

the line across the back of my head leaks fluid so much my hair is wet, i lost my sense of taste and smell, my nose is always stuffed up ?

Fluid: I am not sure exactly where you are leaking fluid from the back of your head,, but it is not normal!  Get checked.

i get watery leakage from my nose sometimes it comes all of a sudden it's like tears, colourless. could this be brain fluid or something else?

????: Thin salt tasting fluid can be "brain fluid" however, if this is your concern, then i would not delay in seeing your doctor soon.  Even if it is not brain fluid, you should still have somebody take a good look.

if a little clear fluid drips out nose when you lean over, does that for sure mean csf leak? can't that happen from just irritated nasal tissues?

Likely nasal fluid: It is far more likely to be nasal fluid than CSF. Your doctor can get the fluid tested for beta transferrin to rule out CSF if that is your concern.
