Normal range: Variations of a non-specific laboratory value within normal range doesn't mean anything. I don't know about eltroxen, but it is irrelevant. The lab is in normal range. An increase (in or out of normal range) of ldh is not specific for a diagnosis of lymphoma (or any other disease).

Q: ldh high 272 a month ago. obese/prediabetic, glu109, ldl 114. lost 18 lbs thru diet/exercise. 3 wks later ldh isoenzyme test total dropped to 243 (high). low in 1 (12) high in 3 (34) & 4 (16). prediabetes related? no symptoms of illness/lymphoma.

Time of test: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, normal values are from samples drawn in post-absorptive, recumbent state, first thing in the morning. If your sample was drawn after exercise, it need to redone under proper conditions.

Mild spleen: enlargement is usually caused by infection, not by any malignant conditions such as leukemia or lymphoma. If your blood count is ok and your doctor is not concerned about this finding, i don't think you should be worried.

Definitely: Elevation of ldh (lactate dehydrogenase) occurs in more aggressive lymphomas. Low grade lymphomas generally have a normal ldh unless they transform and behave more aggressively. High ldh is also a marker used in the prognostication of lymphomas.

my ldh was 232. the labs upper limit is 230. i had jogged 24 hrs before the test. my ck was 984. can that level of increased ldh indicate lymphoma?

Not by itself: Exercise is the likely explanation the levels of both enzymes. It is good that you exercise.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

husband diagnosed with diffused large b cell lymphoma and the ldh level is 169 within the normal range . does by any chance his ldh number predict the stage ? he has app for pet scan?

: LDH does not predict the stage but a normal LDH is a very good sign. The PET scan will better inform you about the stage.  I know this is a difficult time for you and your husband but stay strong and take one day at a time, get the treatments offered and I am hoping for the best for you.

Cell turn over: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme that is in all our cells. Rapid cell turnover (a combination of proliferation and death) within lymphomas makes the LDH levels rise in the serum. LDH may also rise briefly after effective therapy, as the tumor cells lyse and release LDH.  It should then fall as the number of tumor cells goes down.

No: Ldh may be high in lymphoma, but may not be.  There are many laboratory and other tests used in the initial staging and prognostic testing for lymphoma. Also some tests are used before initial treatment because of concern of viral reactivation -- eg hiv, hepatitis studies.

Normal: remember false positive results can occur, common in any lab, at times mishandling of specimens would lead to increased cell damage, hence false high readings. In the end we treat patients, not lab results, and LDH doesn't diagnose specific cancer, and cancer diagnosis isn't dependant on only one factor, clinical picture is more important to start with, enjoy your health

Yes: Indolent means not growing or slow growing. It is quite common for this disease to remain stable for years. However, I would recommend regular follow up visits and labs (and Imaging studies as needed) since there is a 10% risk of transformation to a very aggressive lymphoma at any time.
