Red is new. Brown or black blood is older and the blood products have started to break down. Menstrual blood color is not something you need to pay attention to. If you are unsure if you are pregnant then check  a test today.

Late period ?'s: Late periods when not on oral bcp's or IUD's are usually indicative of pregnancy.  Some "home tests" are not accurate, so to be certain , get a serum HCG test, and see your gyn physician regardless of whether it is negative, for an exam and testing.

Doubtful: If I understand correctly, you are saying that your period was 3 days late, but that you did eventually have it, and that it was of an unusual character. If you had anything like a period, even late, then it is very unlikely that you are pregnant. Try taking an OTC pregnancy test to be more sure, but I think you are unlikely to be pregnant.
