Need more info: Is  the lymph node in the chest related to the prostate cancer? How is the psa? Anything else positive on the bone scan/ct scan ? Options one can get once the cancer progresses on lupron- including- Provenge vaccines; other androgen blocker, chemotherapy, zytiga, (abiraterone acetate) . Radiation  will prob not needed for lymph gland in the chest and better not to do it at the same time as chemo. Discuss with  your md.

Depending on the type of chemo, people can get sores in their mouth and diarrhea. Your doctor can prescribe medications which can help prevent or treat these problems should they occur so please ask.

Throat dysfunction: If the radiation was to the neck then it is common to develop late swallowing difficulties as the throat muscles fibrose or stop working.  Dryness from the radiation can also affect swallowing.  Suggest seeing ENT who can examine the throat, get swallowing study, and get swallowing therapy started.  If the radiation was not to the neck then other causes exist that ENT could consider.

CHECK FIRST: In general oral chemotherapy pills should not be crushed, chewed or opened. The best approach is to ask your oncologist regarding that specific pill, he/she will guide you the best.

Tough one: Your question is very valid but I am not sure it can be answered without knowing more about the situation.  We do see patients whose general condition is so poor that it is almost certain they will get unacceptable toxicity and for whom supportive care is the best way to go.  Whether this is the case, I cannot say.  You certainly have the right to get a second opinion.  Sorry about this.

Perhaps: Reflux symptoms can be worsened by anything that suppresses the immune system.    Evaluating a patient for problems with reflux and the effectiveness of treatment frequently requires looking from above with an endoscope (esophagi-gastro-duodenoscopy).

Take pain meds: You should report this problem to your oncologist and ask for medication for what appears to be virus/Flu type of sore throat. If your blood counts are not low, you could also use tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain control but make sure that you do not have fever. With low counts or Fever, tylenol (acetaminophen) is not safe unless your doctor is monitoring your condition.

Non-reactive brain: Coma is described by the lack of patient response to stimulation.  Centers in the brain stem cause us to be awake and to respond to things around us (ras).  When this is not functioning properly, a level of coma can be described.  The brain may be shut down by trauma, drugs, lack of oxygen, stroke, swelling, etc.  The chance of recovery and the degree of recovery may be very difficult to predict.
