found a little red spot on side of tongue this am.  only one.  very small like a larger pin head. .. just today. should i worry? maybe bit myself?

May be bite mark: There are a number of things that can cause something like this, most of which are not serious.  It could well be a bite mark.  It should heal quickly, in a few days.  If the area does not heal in 2 weeks, or gets bigger and more painful, it is time to see a dentist and have it checked.

my 3 year old has 1 dark red spot on the top of her mouth. no swelling or redness anywhere else. no fever. just noticed it today. what could this be?

Too early to tell: One red spot of one day's duration wld be very hard to diagnose esp in the absence of other symptoms. Best weld be to observe her for a few days and if new spots develop or other signs and symptoms develop take her to her pediatrician or a dermatologist.. If u r very worried u can do so now.

2nd opinion : If you feel like your dentist doesn't care then go back and ask him to refer you to someone who can answer your question. If you would rather not go back then try finding another dentist on your own for a second opinion.  The good news is that this spot comes and goes away so it is probably nothing serious.

Hard to say: Without seeing your tongue it is not possible to tell you  what is going on with your tongue.  There are several causes of spots ranging from virus, allergies, and trauma.  But most things on the tongue will heal without treatment.  If you are having pain, difficulty swallowing, or if it does to heal in a week to 10 days you should see a dentist and have it checked out.

Possibly: If the spot 'moves' (changes location) it is probably 'geographic tongue'...A benign condition. The red spot is a denuded area and it can be sensitive. Geographic tongue, also known as glossitis migrans, is usually intermittent in nature. However, it may be something else. You should have it examined by a dentist or oral surgeon trained in oral pathology.
