R.I.C.E.: Treating a superficial hematoma is similar to the treatment used for other soft tissue injuries. Using the r.I.C.E method (rest, ice, compression, elevation) is recommended. Apply ice to the area for 15 minutes, several times per day.

See a doctor : If this was really a bruise, it should have resolved over 2-3 weeks after the injury. The damage seems to have walked itself off, and should be evaluated by an ortho, with or without the proper imaging to assess what kind of injury you had/have...

Yes you can: Monitor the swelling carefully. In extreme cases the hematoma can continue to get bigger and cause extreme pain and tightness leading to compartment syndrome which can be surgical emergency.

Hematoma: Sometimes a hematoma will harden under the skin as a painful,tender lump and will need to be removed with a small incision if warm soaks Don't cause it to recede. A general surgeon performs the procedure.

Hematoma : It will eventually resolve but it could take several months  if it becomes painful you should see a physician as it could become infected and require evacuation

See below: Most likelly local trauma. If it does not go away or he gets more of these see a doctor. Is he on a blood thinner or on aspirin?

Bruise: Your itching is what caused the bruise if you were rubbing hard. It is nothing to be concerned about.
