At least 6 weeks: We usually say about 6 weeks for initial healing, but scars will continue to fade even months after this especially if they are kept well moisturized and out of the sun.

i had a laparotomy 2.5 weeks ago, everything looks fine on the outside but  when i touch the scar, inside feels thicker on the left shud i be worried?

Laparotomy scar: Scars after surgerical procedures mature over about 6 months  before the scarring process is complete.  The majority of the collagen deposition and remodelling occurs during the first month.  By about 2.5 weeks, the scar strength is about 65%,  so it is not uncommon to feel hardness under the incision.  Also, the surgeon may have left dissovable sutures under the skin which could also feel hard.

i just had surgery 3 months ago. i was wondering if it's okay to start taking accutane.  would it be okay for scar healing?

Accutane: Since Accutane can affect collagen, it is not a good idea to use Accutane while scar is healing

Limited data: Overall there is limited data in regards to the overall effect of Accutane and wound healing.  Some studies have suggested some effect, it's probably rather small.  At the 5 month mark, you're probably fine, but please review this with your dermatologist and/or surgeon.  Best of luck.

Pain: Pain at or near a surgical scar is common. There are tiny skin nerve that heal through the scar ; become sensitive. This can last several weeks or some months. See your surgeon for an exam if it persists.

what treatment is good for breast surgery scars ?

Confession massage and pharmacologic: Pharmacologic intervention. The simplest thing is to get 3m paper tape and keep it on the scars this helps especially in the early phases of scar maturation. Later one can use almost any lubricant or better yet Mederma and massage the scar frequently silicone backed tape or silicone gel are also effective but more of a nuisance. If the scars happen to get sick and ropey enough it may warrant injection with cortisone-like drugs.

how to identify if a scar is a keloid. i have a post surgical scar in my abdomen following laparotomy as on 3 oct 2012?

Thickened scar: If the scar is still thick and/or widened then you may need a steroid injection or probably several injections.  If it is just red then you may benefit from topical avosil.

Keloid: Provided its not infected you may have a keloid which is likely a genetic trait of scar formation.
