Lactulose: Lactulose is a milk sugar, the atkins diet, or similar low or no carbohydrate diets recommend against dairy products as they contain fat and sugar. The point of the early portion of the diet is to use a less efficient metabolic pathway that burns fat or protein only.  Eating sugars and fats may push you out of the ketotic metabolism into normal metabolism... So you would be thwarting the diet.

This is covered well: In all the atkins books.  You can follow my tips for dinners on low carb diets, but they are not phase one!  remember, phase one virtually eliminates most carbs to obtain a dietetic ketosis!

Protein and fat: Any protein and fat is allowed on the atkins diet. You avoid fruits and vegetables which have some form of sugars. Protein and fat can be meat, chicken, fish, eggs, turkey, ham, pork, etc.  So for example- breakfast might be eggs and sausage. Lunch might be chicken and ribs, dinner might be lamb chops. You wouldn't have beans or legumes, no potatos, no rice, and no fruits.

Likely: Diets high in cholesterol raise cholesterol. The atkins diet is high in salt, fat and cholesterol (as most people practice it) and such changes would be reasonably expected.

Any of....: Morning star farms meat substitutes (griilers-sausage, etc without excessive carbs.  This canrivore likes their products! eas and atkin's shakes and protein bars ( do contain whey-so not for vegan).

Yes: Simple carbs are sugars and are a major cause of obesity. Complex carbs come from fruit and vegetables and represent normal diet. Atkins is not a "normal" diet.

Accepted Answer

In moderation: If you lose weight while doing carbohydrate restricting diets, then to go back to eating simple, refined carbohydrates in excessive quantities will likely result in weight gain.  The bigger goal is to change your eating habits, and try to eat more nutritious foods, and simple refined carbs in moderation.
