Plain organic yogurt: Most yogurts have lots of added sugar; it is best to get plain yogurt- you can add fresh fruit on your own if you wish. I strongly advise organic yogurt or else it is probably made from cows fed gmo corn which is best avoided. Some of the best brands are stonyfield farms, wallaby and straus family creamery.

Yes,but not together: The only prescriptions that might interfere with acidophilus are antibiotics, but being on  antibiotics is when we need probiotics the most! if on antibiotics take a high potency probiotic, at least 20 billion, and take at least a couple hours away from antibiotics. I also advise taking sacchromyces boulardii, a probiotic yeast, if you are on antibiotics- this can be taken at the same time.

Stonyfield,Culturele: If you really want the benefits of lactobacillus acidophilus i advise taking it as a supplement, as most yogurts have little if any live cultures. Stonyfield farms is one brand that does have live cultures. For supplements good brands include culturelle, bio-k+, primal defense, dr. Ohirra's & probiotic pearls. can i take lactobacillus acidophilus with sertraline? i believe that they can affect the seratonin levels or something. i'm on 100mg per day.

Sertraline with ProB: Yes.  Sertraline elevates serotonin in nervous system and GI tract.  Acidophilus  .  elevates serotonin production in GI tract. Both considered healthful and important by experts.  So, proceed. Add probiotic slowly.  Only risk - is serotonin syndrome,  which includes nausea, dizziness, weakness -- but which is highly unlikely.  Best wishes.  Eat well.  Exercise.  Minimize simple carbs.

what would cause low lactobacillus acidophilus levels in urine? havnt been on antibiotics since july. could yeast tablets like azo cause levl to drop?

Stool contamination: Normally there are no lactobacilli  in  the urine. If there are low levels in a stool sample that could be due to antibiotics. If you are eating 6 servings of organic fresh vegetables and 1 apple a  day and  eating a little yogurt each day you should have good bacteria in your GI tract.  Cystectomy is very unusual at age 13. Dilitation and curettage could introduce stool bacteria into urine.

Ph >7 usually= infec: Although I am usually against anything in the vagina that isn't attached to a human, try a very dilute solution of clear vinegar( 1 teaspoon in a quart of water) douche.If problem persists:check for diabetes.

No: Probiotics and whey provide different benefits.  They both have "lacto" in their names, which may be the source of your confusion.  Lacto means related to milk.  Lactobacillus is a bacteria that can grow in dairy products.  Whey is the thin, clear liquid that is left when milk has curdled; it is high in protein.  Probiotics are good for intestinal health. Whey is primarily a protein source.

Acidophilus: is a good probiotic but you you receive greater heal by taking a brand of probiotic that has several strains of probiotics in it, not just one.
