No: Elevated lactic acid levels suggest heart. liver or lung problems (can also be associated with signif infection or anemia).  Levels are up when non-aerobic respiration occurring in body.  Can mean not enough oxygen to area(s) in body.  Please discuss with your doctor.  But to my knowledge, not associated with migraine headaches as a cause or trigger.  Best of luck with this.  Dr R

Small amount: Lactic acid build up can occur from a variety of causes. Most times this is a limited disturbance due to a severe illness in hospitalized patients (sepsis or liver failure). It can also occur during aggressive exercise, but is generally never severe enough to require medical attention.

Increased blood flow: Lactic acid levels rise when blood flow is decreased, as in shock. Increasing blood flow with fluids and drugs will restore normal metabolism and clearance of elevated blood Lactic Acid levels. In fact, we monitor the blood levels of Lactic Acid 2 adjust and determine effectiveness of shock treatment in the intensive care unit.

Needs to be treated: Lactic acid is produced by tissues/ cells that are not getting enough oxygen.  The most common cause is due to patient's blood pressure being so low that organs such bowel/ kidneys/ brain are not getting enough oxygen.  This always has to be treated, as it can be life threatening.  Cause of low blood pressure needs to investigated, however quite often is due to an infection causing severe sepsis.

No: Lactic acid, although we say "a build up of lactic acid" , etc, does not make a bump or knob. You could have a muscle spasm of some sorts or another injury such as a muscle tear.

Lactate and panic: For years, lactate or Lactic Acid was used as an experimental model in humans to trigger panic. Exercise releases Lactic Acid from muscles and 1/3 of people with panic get worse with exercise because of the lactic acid. 1/3 feel no different and 1/3 feel better.

Interval training: During training you need to maintain a constant aerobic level with intermittent high intensity bursts. After these bursts do not stop or slow down but go back to an aerobic level so that your body can adapt to metabolizing lactic acid while maintaining the aerobic capacity. Example: if you run 6 miles at an aerobic pace of 8-9 min/mile, do 30 second intervals at 6 min/mile but dont slow to 10 min/

Hydroquinone: The best treatment for uneven skin is hydroquinone (hq).  It is great for freckles, sun damage, and can help scars.  Do not use on moles or anything you're unsure of.  The highest strength available otc is 2%.  It is not very effective.  For something more effective (4-10%), visit your dermatologist.
